Vanderbilt meets Georgia with SEC title in mind

Feb 23, 2008 - 1:02 PM Georgia (12-12) at No. 16 Vanderbilt (22-4) 4:00 pm EST

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Vanderbilt has been a pleasant surprise this season. But if the Commodores want to win their first Southeastern Conference regular-season championship since 1993, they need to keep winning games.

The 16th-ranked Commodores shoot for their sixth straight win Saturday when they host Georgia in an SEC contest.

Shan Foster scored 19 points as the Commodores (22-4, 7-4 SEC East) completed a five-game winning streak with a narrow 61-58 victory over two-time defending champion Florida last Saturday.

Despite its recent strong play, Vanderbilt is currently in fourth place overall in the SEC and trails No. 1 Tennessee by 3 1/2 games atop the standings.

Georgia (12-12, 3-8 East) suffered its second straight loss and seventh in eight games during a 61-55 setback to Kentucky on Tuesday.

Terrance Woodbury scored 15 points to lead the Bulldogs while leading scorer Sundiata Gaines added 10 points and 10 rebounds - reaching double figures in scoring for the sixth consecutive contest.
