Villanova looks to end streak of No. 21 Marquette

Feb 25, 2008 - 5:44 PM No. 21 Marquette (20-6) at Villanova (17-9) 7:00 pm EST

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- Villanova will look to stop another winning streak when the Wildcats face 21st-ranked Marquette in a Big East Conference game on Monday.

Villanova is coming off a Saturday's 67-65 home win over No. 13 Connecticut that snapped the Huskies' 10-game winning streak.

The Wildcats (17-9, 7-7 Big East) will now try to snap a four-game unbeaten run by the Golden Eagles (20-6, 10-5).

Marquette sits alone in fifth place and has already locked up a spot in the conference tournament. But the Golden Eagles are only two games out of first. Marquette is coming off a 78-48 rout of Rutgers on Saturday.

Sophomore guard Scottie Reynolds leads Villanova at 16.4 points per game. Reynolds and freshman guard Corey Stokes each had 18 points in Saturday's win.

"We're starting to get it and the young players are stepping up," Reynolds said. "We're feeling better and better about ourselves."

The Wildcats, 11-2 overall at home, have won three straight games and four of five. Monday's game is the only one this season between the teams in the series, which Villanova leads, 6-4.
