No longer unbeaten, Memphis can clinch conference title

Feb 27, 2008 - 11:41 AM Tulsa (15-10) at No. 3 Memphis (26-1) 9:00 pm EST

MEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) - Memphis will not go undefeated this season, but is still one win away from clinching a conference title.

The third-ranked Tigers hope to accomplish that feat when they host Tulsa in a Conference USA matchup on Wednesday.

Memphis (26-1. 12-0 C-USA) had its 47-game home winning streak snapped in Saturday's 66-62 defeat to then-No. 2 Tennessee. Freshman Derrick Rose scored 23 points and Chris Douglas-Roberts had 14 in the loss.

But the Tigers have won 35 straight conference games and should be able to continue their success against Tulsa.

The Golden Hurricane (15-10, 6-6) are riding a five-game winning streak and are coming off a 77-58 victory over non-conference foe Presbyterian on Saturday.

Sophomore Ben Uzoh, who leads the team in scoring at 15.1 per contest, had 26 points in the win.

Memphis won the first meeting, 56-41, on January 23 and is 5-0 against Tulsa since the start of the 2005-06 season.
