Purdue tries to start new win streak against Minnesota

Feb 27, 2008 - 11:41 AM Minnesota (17-9) at No. 19 Purdue (21-6) 9:00 pm EST

WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana (Ticker) -- No. 19 Purdue looks to begin a new winning streak when it hosts Minnesota on Wednesday in a Big Ten matchup.

Purdue (21-6, 12-2) had an 11-game win streak snapped on February 19 in a 77-68 loss to then-No. 14 Indiana. Freshman Robbie Hummel had 17 points, four steals and hit 3-of-6 3-pointers to lead the Boilermakers.

Hummel, the team's second-leading scorer at 11.5 points per game, has flown largely under the radar this season due the plethora of talented freshmen across the country. However, the first-year swingman has made over 51 percent of his shots from the floor and 46 percent from 3-point range.

Minnesota (17-9, 7-7) enters Wednesday's contest with back-to-back Big Ten wins.

Lawrence McKenzie scored a career-high 26 points, including seven 3-pointers, to lead the Golden Gophers to a nine-point victory over Michigan on Thursday. He then scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds Sunday en route to a 75-68 triumph over Penn State.

McKenzie, the team's second-leading scorer, is averaging 11.4 points and three assists this season.
