Stanford goes for season sweep of Washington State

PALO ALTO, California (Ticker) - In a key Pac-10 Conference matchup, No. 22 Washington State hopes to avoid a season sweep at the hands of eighth-ranked Stanford when the teams meet Saturday.

The Cougars (22-6, 10-6) were defeated, 67-65, in overtime on February 2 by the Cardinal (23-4, 12-3), who still have aspirations of a conference title.

Stanford is coming off an 82-79 victory over Washington on Thursday and trail UCLA (by one game in the Pac-10 with three contests left - including a matchup with the Bruins on March 6.

Brook Lopez had 21 points, seven rebounds and four blocks to lead the Cardinal, who have won three straight games and 10 of their last 11.

Washington State, which has lost five of its last six to Stanford, held California to a season low for points in Thursday's 70-49 triumph.

Taylor Rochestie led four players in double figures with 18 points and six assists and Kyle Weaver added 17 points. Weaver scored a career-high 23 points in the first meeting against Stanford this season.
