Wisconsin looks to claim Big Ten title outright

Mar 8, 2008 - 1:59 PM No. 8 Wisconsin (25-4) at Northwestern (8-20) 3:00 pm EST

EVANSTON, Illinois (Ticker) - Already guaranteed a share of the Big Ten Conference title, eighth-ranked Wisconsin looks to clinch the crown outright with a win at lowly Northwestern on Saturday.

The Badgers (25-4, 15-2), who are on a six-game winning streak, also will claim the conference title if Purdue (14-3) loses to Michigan on Sunday.

Wisconsin is coming off its most lopsided Big Ten victory of the season, a 77-41 trouncing of Penn State on Wednesday. Marcus Landry scored 15 points as the Badgers held an opponent under 50 points for a ninth time this season.

The Wildcats (8-20, 1-16) have lost two straight games since earning their first conference win on March 26.

Northwestern is coming off a 67-62 loss to Iowa on Tuesday. The Wildcats have lost five straight home games and eight of nine.

Wisconsin won the first meeting, 62-50, and is looking for its second straight series sweep.
