With Pac-10 title in hand, UCLA takes on California

Mar 8, 2008 - 2:05 PM California (15-13) at No. 2 Ucla (27-3) 3:30 pm EST

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) - Second-ranked UCLA closes out its regular-season schedule on Saturday when it hosts California.

The Bruins (27-3, 15-2) clinched their third consecutive Pac-10 regular season title on Thursday, rallying for a 77-67 overtime victory over seventh-ranked Stanford on Thursday.

Darren Collison poured in 24 points to lead UCLA, which took advantage of a questionable call in the final seconds to send the game into overtime.

With Bruins having no timeouts remaining and trailing by two points, Collison took an inbounds pass from under his own basket and sprinted up the floor, taking a shot from just outside the lane. His shot appeared to be cleanly blocked by Lawrence Hill, but a foul was called. Collison sank both free throws to send the game to overtime.

Collison, the team's second-leading scorer at 14.7 points per game, has done a terrific job of running the UCLA offense recently, averaging 4.4 assists over his last five games.

Meanwhile, California (15-13, 6-11) is limping toward the finish line and suffered its fifth straight loss on Thursday, a 93-89 overtime setback to Southern California.
