Memphis looks to continue domination of Conference USA

Mar 13, 2008 - 2:14 PM Tulane (17-14) at No. 3 Memphis (30-1) 7:00 pm EDT

MEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) - Third-ranked Memphis goes for its 40th straight Conference USA victory when they face Tulane in the tournament's quarterfinal round on Thursday.

The Tigers, who have topped the 30-win mark for the third straight season, are coming off a 94-56 victory over UAB in the season finale on Saturday. It was the fourth straight win for Memphis since its lone loss to Tennessee on February 23.

Joey Dorsey had 16 points and 12 rebounds in the win, while leading scorer Chris Douglas-Roberts was held to just eight. The junior is scoring 17.3 points per game.

Memphis won the lone contest between the teams, 97-71, on February 20 and will have an advantage as the tournament is being held on its home floor at the FedEx Forum.

Kevin Sims made two free throws to cap an 11-0 game-ending run as the ninth-seeded Green Wave posted a 48-47 victory over Marshall in an opening round matchup on Wednesday.

Sims finished with 14 points to lead Tulane, which has won two straight since an eight-game losing streak.

Whichever team moves on will play the winner of Central Florida and Southern Mississippi in the semifinals on Friday.
