Texas meets Oklahoma in Big 12 semifinals

Mar 15, 2008 - 1:40 PM Oklahoma (22-10) at No. 8 Texas (27-5) 2:00 pm EDT

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) - Eighth-ranked Texas looks to move one step closer to its first Big 12 tournament title when it meets Oklahoma in the semifinals on Saturday.

D.J. Augustin scored 24 points on Friday as top-seeded Texas advanced to the semifinals with a 66-59 victory over ninth-seeded Oklahoma State.

Augustin shot 6-of-11 from the floor - including 5-of-7 from the arc - and Damion James added 23 points and 11 rebounds for Texas (27-5), which has won 11 of its last 12 contests.

"It was pretty good," Augustin said. "We can go back and work on some things, and I think we played pretty good zone defense. Everybody was playing their role, playing their part and we got stops in there and it worked well for us."

The Longhorns are the top seed in the Big 12 for the second time in three seasons, but have never won the tournament in 11 tries. Texas has lost in the finals in each of the past two seasons.

Meanwhile, fourth-seeded Oklahoma (22-10) moved into the round of four with a 54-49 victory over No. 12 seed Colorado on Friday despite the worst performance of the campaign from leading scorer and rebounder freshman Blake Griffin, who managed a season-low four points.

Griffin should bounce back against Texas after averaging 17.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in two regular season games vs. the Longhorns.
