Georgetown meets Pittsburgh in Big East title game

Mar 15, 2008 - 1:55 PM Pittsburgh (25-9) at No. 9 Georgetown (27-4) 9:00 pm EDT

NEW YORK (Ticker) - After narrowly missing out on the Big East tournament title last season, Pittsburgh is seeking some revenge.

Pittsburgh tries to keep No. 9 Georgetown from winning its second consecutive championship on Saturday when the teams meet in the Big East championship game.

The seventh-seeded Panthers (25-9) suffered an embarrassing 65-42 loss to the Hoyas during last year's conference title game, failing to stop Roy Hibbert, who scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Georgetown.

Pittsburgh punched its ticket to the 2008 title game with a 68-61 victory over No. 24 Marquette, the sixth seed, on Friday. Sam Young scored 22 points while point guard Ronald Ramon added 14 to lead the Panthers to the championship game for the third straight season and seventh time in eight years.

Top-seeded Georgetown (27-4) advanced to the final with a dominating 72-55 triumph over the No. 5 seed West Virginia on Friday. After being held scoreless against Villanova during the quarterfinals, Hibbert bounced back with a season-high 25 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Hoyas

Georgetown is seeking back-to-back championships for the first time since winning the 1984 and 1985 title.
