Syracuse looks to sweep Black Coaches Association Invitational

SYRACUSE, New York (Ticker) -- Syracuse is one win away from a clean sweep of its own tournament.

The 20th-ranked Orange host UTEP on Sunday, when they will try to make it three wins in as many games of the round-robin Black Coaches Association Invitational at the Carrier Dome.

Syracuse opened its season Friday with a comfortable 83-51 triumph over St. Francis. Things did not go quite as smoothly Saturday, but the Orange still managed to post a 78-60 victory over Pennsylvania.

Terrence Roberts and Eric Devendorf scored 16 points apiece and Demetris Nichols and Matt Gorman each added 12 as Syracuse shot 54 percent (27-of-50), including 8-of-18 from 3-point range.

Freshman Paul Harris was held to six points and four rebounds after recording a double-double in his collegiate debut Friday.

UTEP also has won both of its games in the season-opening tournament, including a 54-52 win against St. Francis on Saturday. The Miners' two victories this season have come by a total of five points.

In their latest triumph, the Miners received 15 points and seven rebounds from Marvin Kilgore and 13 from reserve Kevin Henderson. They won despite shooting just 35 percent (22-of-62) and committing 17 turnovers.
