Washington goes for sweep of Basketball Travlers Classic

Nov 14, 2006 - 2:49 PM Northern Iowa (2-0) at No. 15 Washington (2-0) 10:30 pm EST

SEATTLE (Ticker) - Long-range accuracy was a vital component of Washington's second victory of the young season.

The 15th-ranked Huskies hope they have plenty 3-pointers left in their arsenal when they attempt to finish a three-game sweep of the Basketball Travelers Classic against Northern Iowa on Tuesday.

After opening the round-robin competition with Sunday's victory over Pepperdine, Washington made things look easy in Monday's 102-74 rout of Nicholls State.

The Huskies made 17 3-pointers and shot 56 percent (38-of-68) from the floor for the contest, while holding a 43-22 rebounding edge. Brandon Burmeister scored 17 points and Jon Brockman added 12 with 10 rebounds.

After becoming the first Northern Iowa coach to win his debut since Eldon Miller in 1986 with Sunday's victory over Nicholls State, Ben Jacobson remained unbeaten following the Panthers' 83-58 triumph over Pepperdine.

Travis Brown tied a career high with 16 points and Brooks McKeown added 11 for Northern Iowa, which went on a 29-7 run en route to a 45-25 halftime advantage.
