Noah, Florida roll to another easy win over North Florida
Nov 15, 2006 - 2:20 AM GAINESVILLE, Florida (Ticker) -- Joakim Noah doubled his pleasure once again.Noah scored 15 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as top-ranked Florida captured its 13th consecutive win dating to last season with an 86-40 rout of North Florida.
The first defending champion to return all five starters since Arizona in 1997-98, the Gators (2-0) also claimed their 22nd straight win against a non-conference foe.
Last season's Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four, Noah followed a double-double effort of 11 points and a career-high 15 boards in a 79-54 victory over Samford on Friday.
The 6-11 junior scored seven points in the first half and finished 6-of-8 from the field en route to his ninth double-double of his career.
Fellow junior Al Horford had 17 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks for Florida, which used a 14-0 run to forge a 24-5 lead midway through the first half and never looked back.
Lee Humphrey, who set the Gators' single-season record for 3-pointers made in a single season last year (113), ignited a 10-0 run at the start of the second half with his first basket from the arc this season.
Overall, Humphrey hit two 3-pointers en route to scoring 12 points. Backcourt mate Taurean Green also netted 12 for Florida, which shot 54 percent (36-of-67).
The team's third-leading scorer last season, Corey Brewer finished with two points on 1-of-4 shooting. The reigning Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Brewer helped force North Florida into consecutive backcourt violations in the opening 3 1/2 minutes of the second half.
Brewer finished with three steals as the Gators had 30 points off 26 turnovers by the Ospreys (0-3).
Rashad Williams scored 21 points for North Florida, which was facing a ranked team for the first time. The senior forward was the lone player in double figures for the Ospreys, who shot just 31 percent (14-of-45).
North Florida, which absorbed its 20 consecutive road loss, is playing a Division I schedule for just the second season.
