No. 16 Arizona goes for 22nd straight win over No. Arizona

Nov 15, 2006 - 5:29 PM Northern Arizona (1-1) at No. 16 Arizona (0-1) 9:30 pm EST

TUCSON, Arizona (Ticker) -- Arizona coach Lute Olsen is not used to losing season openers with the Wildcats and is looking for a better result in his next outing.

The 16th-ranked Wildcats try to avoid a rare 0-2 start when they look for their 23rd consecutive victory over in-state rival Northern Arizona on Wednesday.

After finishing last season with a 20-13 mark following a loss to Villanova in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Arizona suffered a 93-90 defeat at Virginia on Sunday.

Ivan Radenovic scored 24 points and Marcus Williams and Jawann McClellan added 18 each for the Wildcats, who allowed the Cavaliers to shoot 59 percent (16-of-27) from the floor in the second half.

The loss was the Wildcats' first in their season-opening road game since 1986-1987.

Northern Arizona bounced back from its opening loss to Kansas with its first victory over Arizona State since 1998-1999, a 75-71 triumph on Monday.

Tyrone Bazy scored 21 points and Josh Wilson and Stephen Sir added 12 each for the Lumberjacks, who shot 51 percent (26-of-51) and made seven straight free throws in the final 45 seconds to seal the win.

Arizona is 59-5 against Northern Arizona here, including a 75-66 victory on December 8. Williams scored 17 points and Radenovic had 14 for the Wildcats.
