Nevada takes on Oregon State on the road

Nov 15, 2006 - 5:34 PM No. 23 Nevada (1-0) at Oregon St (2-1) 10:00 pm EST

CORVALLIS, Oregon (Ticker) -- Nevada is lucky to have its best player still on the roster. But on Wednesday, its top talent will take on some better competition.

The Wolf Pack will take on Oregon State out of the Pac-10 in their second game of the season - their first against a Division I opponent.

Nick Fazekas was going to enter the NBA draft, but he decided to come back to the college for one last run. He scored 29 points to power Nevada to an 85-62 victory over Division II Alaska-Anchorage in its last game.

The 6-11 forward, a two-time Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year, was immense in the opening half, almost outscoring the Seawolves by himself.

One of four returning starters, Fazekas had 23 points in the first half on 8-of-11 shooting to lead Nevada to a 41-29 lead at the break.

However, it won't be as easy against the Beavers, who went 2-1 in the Oregon Rain Invitational. Oregon State surrendered a 10-point halftime lead, but came back to win, 78-65, over Cal Poly on Sunday.

Junior forward Marcel Jones is averaging 18.7 points and nine rebounds for Oregon State. He netted 21 points and seven rebounds against the Mustangs.

The Beavers lead the all-time series 4-3 against Nevada but the teams have not met since the 1979 NIT.
