LSU opens season against Nicholls State
Nov 17, 2006 - 3:27 PM Nicholls St (0-4) at No. 7 LSU (0-0) 8:00 pm ESTBATON ROUGE, Louisiana (Ticker) - Louisiana State opens its 2006-07 season against Nicholls State on Friday.
The seventh-ranked Tigers enter this campaign with high expectations after reaching the Final Four last April. LSU fell just shy of the national title game after suffering an ugly 59-45 setback to UCLA.
One of the Tigers' two biggest tournament stars is returning for another title run. That is Glen Davis, who averaged 18.6 points and 9.7 rebounds last campaign.
But LSU will have to make adjustments since the high-flying Tyrus Thomas is now in the NBA with the Chicago Bulls and second-leading scorer Darrel Mitchell is gone.
The Tigers aim to improve to 13-0 all-time against the Colonels.
Nicholls State suffered its fourth straight loss to open the season, a 98-83 setback to Pepperdine on Tuesday.
Adonis Gray scored 33 points and Justin Payne and Aaron Scott both added 15 for the Colonels, who suffered from 21 3-pointers by the Waves.
No one has shouted yet.
