Gray, Pittsburgh play second contest in as many days

Nov 18, 2006 - 3:59 PM Massachusetts (2-0) at No. 5 Pittsburgh (3-0) 5:00 pm EST

PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- Aaron Gray and Pittsburgh shouldn't have to worry about being fatigued when facing Massachusetts in the second round of the Colonial Classic on Saturday.

In the opener Friday, Gray scored 17 of his 24 points in the first half as the fifth-ranked Panthers cruised to a 78-52 victory over Northeastern. He logged just 25 minutes and grabbed 14 rebounds.

Antonio Graves had 15 points and Keith Benjamin added 11 for Pittsburgh, which did not have a starter player more than 25 minutes.

The Panthers have won their last 14 consecutive non-conference games dating back to last season.

The Minutemen started their three-day, three-game road trip with a 65-56 triumph over Oakland on Friday. Gary Forbes and James Lift both scored 15 points for Massachusetts, which survived 22 turnovers.

Pittsburgh owns a 9-4 all-time record against UMass.
