Durant leads Texas into matchup with Nicholls State

AUSTIN, Texas (Ticker) - Fresh off a third-place finish in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, Kevin Durant and No. 25 Texas square off against Nicholls State on Tuesday.

Texas absorbed a 63-61 defeat to Michigan State in the first round of the tournament on Thursday before posting a 77-76 triumph against St. John's in Friday's consolation game.

In the win over the Red Storm, Durant scored 29 points on 9-of-17 shooting. The swingman added 10 rebounds, four assists and a pair of blocks in 32 minutes.

Through the first four games of his freshman campaign, Durant is averaging 22.8 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.2 blocks, 2.0 assists and 1.2 steals.

Nicholls State, meanwhile, has lost its first five games by an average of 27.4 points.

The Colonels were pounded by No. 7 Louisiana State on Friday, dropping an ugly 96-42 decision. Adonis Gray scored 10 points on 3-of-13 shooting to lead Nicholls State, which shot just 20 percent (13-of-63) and made only 4-of-30 attempts from the arc.
