Two consistent winners meet as UCLA plays Kentucky
Nov 21, 2006 - 2:46 PM No. 22 Kentucky (3-0) at No. 5 UCLA (2-0) 9:30 pm ESTMAUI, Hawaii (Ticker) - Two schools with rich traditions meet when No. 22 Kentucky tangles with fifth-ranked UCLA in the second round of the Maui Invitational on Tuesday.
The Bruins have 11 national titles while the Wildcats have earned seven.
UCLA recorded an easy 88-63 victory over host Chaminade on Monday. Arron Afflalo scored 25 points to pace the Bruins, who jumped out to a 17-2 advantage and cruised thereafter.
Josh Shipp scored 16 points and Darren Collison chipped in 15 for the Bruins, who shot 57 percent (35-of-62) from the floor.
Randolph Morris scored 20 points to lead the Wildcats to an 87-81 victory over DePaul another opening-round game.
A 6-11, 265-pound junior center, Morris scored 16 points in the second half, including four in a 6-0 run that gave Kentucky an 80-69 lead with 2:43 to play.
Ramel Bradley and Joe Crawford scored 14 points apiece for the Wildcats (3-0), who shot 55 percent (34-of-62).
