Undefeated teams collide as Duke faces Marquette in CBE final
Nov 21, 2006 - 2:52 PM No. 8 Duke (4-0) at No. 17 Marquette (5-0) 10:00 pm ESTKANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) - Eighth-ranked Duke, which opened with four straight victories, plays a ranked club for the first time when it takes on Marquette on Tuesday in the title game of the CBE Classic.
Duke advanced to the title game with a 71-56 victory over Air Force on Monday. DeMarcus Nelson led the Blue Devils with a career-high 23 points while Lance Thomas added 15 points and fellow freshman Jon Scheyer finished with 12.
Duke, which went 8-1 against ranked opponents last season, outrebounded Air Force by an impressive 30-10. The Blue Devils are outrebounding opponents by an average of 12.5 this season.
Marquette reached the final by pounding Texas Tech, 87-72, on Monday. Wesley Matthews led the Golden Eagles with 20 points and also finished with six assists.
The Golden Eagles forced 18 turnovers and converted them into 27 points.
