Big East recruiting update (Sept. 26): UConn, Providence get commits, new offers and more!

The chatter and hype continues to build at Storrs, so much so that UConn’s 2023 class has already made Michigan Fab Five references.

The Huskies secured their fifth commitment early last week, when four-star 7-foot center Youssouf Singare (Mali/Our Saviour Lutheran) committed to the Huskies.

Whether they live up to the hype, come close to it, or fall to the pressure remains to be seen, but there’s no doubting that Dan Hurley has put in some serious work on the recruiting trail this past offseason.

The Huskies weren’t the only winners this past week, with Providence also securing a commitment. Four-star 2023 forward Drew Fielder (Boise, Idaho/Southern California Academy) became the Friars’ second commit in the 2023 class.

As for ‘Nova, the Wildcats added a new target to keep an eye on in five-star 2024 forward Bryson Tucker (Baltimore, Md./IMG Academy).

Here’s the rest of the action from this past week:

Big East commitments:

• Four-star 2023 forward Drew Fielder (Boise, Idaho/Southern California Academy) committed to Providence, also had offers from St. John’s and Creighton.
• Four-star 2023 center Youssouf Singare (Mali/Our Saviour Lutheran) committed to UConn, also had offers from Providence, St. John’s and Seton Hall.

Non-Big East commitments:

• Four-star 2023 guard Taison Chatman (Fridley, Minn./Totino-Grace) committed to Ohio State, also had Xavier in his final five list.
• Three-star 2023 guard Brady Dunlap (Valencia, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) committed to Notre Dame over Providence and other schools in his final six list.
• Three-star 2023 guard Josh Hubbard (Madison, Miss./Madison-Ridgeland Academy) committed to Ole Miss, also had Georgetown, Seton Hall and Xavier offers.
• Four-star 2023 guard Jamari McDowell (Houston, Texas/Manvel) picked Kansas over Xavier, and other schools in his final four list.
• Three-star 2023 forward Jacob McFarland (Moreno Valley, Calif./Rancho Verde) committed to Houston, also had a Providence offer.
• Four-star 2023 forward Curtis Williams Jr. (Redford, Mich./Brother Rice) committed to Louisville, also had an offer from Xavier.
• Three-star 2023 forward Nolan Winter (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) committed to Wisconsin, also had an offer from Xavier.

Final cuts:

• Four-star 2023 forward Dennis Parker II (Richmond, Va./John Marshall) included Georgetown in his final five list, but cut Xavier.

New offers:

• Four-star 2024 guard Jalil Bethea (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) received an offer from Seton Hall.
• Four-star 2024 guard Jaeden Mustaf (Bowie, Md./DeMatha Catholic) received an offer from DePaul.
• Three-star 2024 Kany Tchanda (Congo/Winston-Salem Christian) received an offer from Providence.
• 2026 guard Tyus Thomas (Las Vegas, Nev./Liberty) received an offer from Creighton.
• Five-star 2024 forward Bryson Tucker (Baltimore, Md./IMG Academy) received an offer from Villanova.
• 2025 forward E.J. Walker (Erlanger, Ky./Lloyd Memorial) received an offer from Xavier.
