Red-hot Maryland hosts High Point

Nov 24, 2006 - 3:02 PM High Point (3-2) at No. 24 Maryland (6-0) 1:30 pm EST

COLLEGE PARK, Maryland (Ticker) -- Off to its best start in years, Maryland should be able to continue its turnaround on Saturday.

At 6-0 for the first time since the 1998-99 season, the 24th-ranked Terrapins go for their seventh straight victory against High Point.

The Terrapins have missed out on the NCAA tournament in each of the past two seasons but are coming off a pair of wins over tournament teams. Maryland defeated Michigan State on November 17 and is coming off a 71-60 victory over Winthrop last Friday.

Bambale Osby scored 14 points and added seven rebounds in 16 minutes against the Eagles while D.J. Strawberry added 11 and eight for the Terps.

Maryland has gotten off to its fast start with defense, forcing an average of 20.2 turnovers per game through the first six games of the season. The Terrapins have held their last four opponents to 60 points or less.

High Point is coming off a 75-59 victory over Chowan on Wednesday. The game began Tuesday night but was forced to resume on Wednesday due to a power outage. Mike Jefferson scored a game-high 16 points, while Arizona Reid tallied 14 for the Panthers.
