Alabama seeks to remain perfect vs. SWAC under Gottfried
Nov 25, 2006 - 3:48 PM Texas Southern (1-3) at No. 9 Alabama (4-0) 7:00 pm ESTTUSCALOOSA, Alabama (Ticker) -- With Mark Gottfried at the helm, Alabama shouldn't have any problems with Texas Southern on Saturday.
The ninth-ranked Crimson Tide are 11-0 under coach Gottfried against teams from the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Texas Southern is a member of that league.
Alabama captured the Paradise Jam title with a 63-56 victory over Xavier on Monday. Mykal Riley, who grabbed 10 rebounds, and Alonzo Gee each scored 13 points for the Crimson Tide, who held the Musketeers to 32 percent (21-of-65) shooting from the field.
Jermareo Davidson had 10 points and 12 boards and Ronald Steele handed out six assists for Alabama, which owned a 40-35 edge in rebounds.
Texas Southern posted its first win of the season - a 66-62 triumph over Huston-Tillotson on Wednesday. Chris Moore collected 22 points and 11 rebounds and Nick Walker added 12 and four steals for the Tigers, who owned a 37-19 rebounding advantage.
