Harris returns home as No. 14 Syracuse meets Canisius

Nov 25, 2006 - 3:50 PM No. 14 Syracuse (5-0) at Canisius (1-2) 7:00 pm EST

BUFFALO, New York (Ticker) -- Paul Harris has lived up to much of his preseason billing as one of the top freshmen in the Big East Conference.

Harris gets a chance to play in front of his hometown fans Saturday for No. 14 Syracuse, which tries to remain undefeated when it meets Canisuis.

A 6-5 guard who lives in nearby Niagara Falls, Harris is third on the team in scoring (12.0) and second in rebounding (8.0). He has two double-doubles in his first five contests, including a 16-point, 12-rebound performance against Northeastern on November 15.

Demetris Nichols scored 21 points, Harris added 17 and Josh Wright 14 for the Orange, who hit a season-high 11 3-pointers in Wednesday's 79-67 triumph over Charlotte.

Syracuse has won 43 consecutive games against intrastate opponents, dating to 2000, and is looking for its 18th straight victory over Canisius. The Orange lead the all-time series, 42-24.

After opening the campaign with losses to Buffalo and West Virginia, the Golden Griffins bounced back with a 78-73 overtime triumph at Colgate.

Corey Herring made 8-of-16 shots and scored 22 points, Darnell Wilson added 14 and Chuck Harris 13 for Canisius, which has not beaten Syracuse since February 1975.
