Wichita State hopes to continue early success vs. LSU
Nov 25, 2006 - 3:57 PM Wichita St (3-0) at No. 6 LSU (2-0) 4:00 pm ESTBATON ROUGE, Louisiana (Ticker) -- Wichita State hopes to beat its second Final Four team in a week.
After defeating George Mason last Saturday, the Shockers will take on sixth-ranked Louisiana State.
Wichita State picked up a 72-66 victory over the Patriots in the much-hyped home opener for last year's surprise Final Four squad. Sean Orgirri scored all 19 of his points in the second half as the Shockers atoned for their loss to George Mason in last year's NCAA Tournament regional semifinals.
After winning its first three contests, Wichita State is looking to become this season's surprise mid-major.
LSU, which lost in last season's national semifinals to UCLA, will have its first tough contest after starting the campaign with two easy victories.
Glen Davis scored 26 points and Tasmin Mitchell added 21 as the Tigers pounded the ball inside in a 88-57 victory over Louisiana-Monroe on Sunday. Despite being down 37 pounds from his playing weight of 326 last season, Davis continued to be a force inside, making 10-of-15 shots and grabbing eight rebounds.
The teams have not met since 1982 and split two all-time meetings.
No one has shouted yet.
