No. 23 Gonzaga seeks redemption from first loss vs. Idaho

Nov 26, 2006 - 3:25 PM Idaho (1-3) at No. 23 Gonzaga (5-1) 4:00 pm EST

SPOKANE, Washington (Ticker) -- For the first time this season, Gonzaga truly missed Adam Morrison.

The 23rd-ranked Bulldogs attempt to rebound from their first loss of the season Sunday when they try to post their eighth consecutive victory over Idaho.

Gonzaga opened the campaign with five victories after the departure of Morrison, who led Division I in scoring last season (28.2). Among those victories was Wednesday's 82-74 win over North Carolina in the semifinals of the NIT Season Tip-Off.

However, the Bulldogs trailed by 18 points in the title game two days later before falling to undefeated Butler, 79-71, at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Derek Ravio scored 20 points and Josh Heytvelt added 16 with eight rebounds for Gonzaga, which lost despite shooting 50 percent (24-of-48) from the floor and recording a 33-28 rebounding edge.

Idaho gave first-year coach George Pfeifer his inaugural victory with a 74-66 win over South Dakota State on November 16. Since then, the Vandals have dropped their last two contests, including Wednesday's 67-50 defeat to Southern Utah.

Keoni Watson scored 12 points and Desmond Nwoke added 11 for Idaho, which was outrebounded, 39-25, and shot 36 percent (16-of-44).

The Vandals have not allowed an opponent to score 100 points in their last 434 games dating to November 14, 1991. They have lost 10 of their last 11 meetings against Gonzaga.
