While this isn’t exactly the place Georgetown wanted to be in on this beautiful World Cup-opening, NFL Sunday - Noon vs a team not expected to contend for anything AND won’t help with any SOS numbers- it’s a spot they most certainly deserve after being thoroughly dominated in the second half by Loyola Marymount on Friday afternoon.

For the second time in four years Patrick Ewing has seen his return home to Jamaica spoiled in the opening matchup by an also-ran Lions team from the West Coast Conference.

The best the Hoyas can do now is save face with a win over La Salle and return home with a winning record five games into the season.

SCOUTING La SALLE

Fran Dunphy is back in college basketball taking over his alma mater having just turned 74 in October. The former Penn and Temple coach is closing in on 600 wins but it might take another season to get there. Dunphy, as many of you will remember, was one of the names rumored to be Hoyas coach before JT3 was hired in 2004. Knowing what we know now that seems ridiculously difficult to believe but who knows.

The Explorers got here by losing to Wake Forest 75-63 on Friday afternoon. Josh Nickelberry led all scorers with 26 points and made 6 of 11 3s. La Salle shoots 37 pct from deep, making about eight per game. These are numbers to watch. The other double-figure scorers through four games are Khalil Brantley (14.5) and the Drame twins from Saint Peter’s -Fousseyni (12.3) and Hassan (11).

SHARE THE BALL

Outside of Brandon Murray (20) and Primo Spears (18) there isn’t a Hoya with more than five assists through four games. Ewing has said the ball isn’t move and he isn’t wrong. With Dante Harris still away from the team, the Hoyas need better ball movement if a second lead guard isn’t going to magically emerge or get the minutes. Denver Anglin seems like the logical choice here but so far he’s been stuck to the bench.
