Wake Forest opens hopeful season against NC Central

Nov 14, 2008 - 11:19 AM NC Central at No. 24 Wake Forest, 7:00 p.m. EST

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Wake Forest has not made the NCAA Tournament since 2005, but the school is hoping this may be its year.

The 24th-ranked Demon Deacons open the campaign on Friday when they host North Carolina Central.

All five starters return for Wake Forest, which also welcomes highly touted forward Al-Farouq Aminu, who should make an immediate impact.

Sophomore James Johnson returns as the team's leading scorer after averaging 14.6 points and 8.1 rebounds per game during his freshman campaign.

The Eagles went 4-25 last season in their first season at the Division I level.

The Independent school brings back senior Brian Ayala, who averaged 13.0 points a season ago.

Wake Forest defeated North Carolina Central, 75-58, on November 19 last season.
