Pargo, Gonzaga open season vs. Division II Montana State-Billings

Nov 15, 2008 - 11:19 AM Montana-State Billings at No. 11 Gonzaga 7:00 pm. EST

SPOKANE, Washington (Ticker) -- Jeremy Pargo and No. 10 Gonzaga have a brutal non-conference schedule, so forgive them if they open with a creampuff.

Pargo and the Zags begin their march toward an 11th straight NCAA Tournament appearance on Saturday when they host Division II Montana-State Billings in the season opener for both teams.

The reigning West Coast Conference Player of the Year, Pargo flirted with the NBA before deciding to return for his senior season. Gonzaga will certainly need his leadership and scoring (12.1 ppg) against the likes of No. 2 Connecticut, No. 13 Memphis and No. 14 Tennessee.

Pargo is far from a one-man show. He has help in the form of Matt Bouldin, who averaged a team-best 12.6 points last season - and senior forward Josh Heytvelt.

Heytvelt is looking to rebound from a tough season in which he was limited by a stress fracture in his right foot.

Pargo, Heytvelt and company should easily handled the Yellow Jackets, who went 1-28 last season. Sophomore guard Brett Taylor (8.2 ppg) is their leading returning scorer.
