Oklahoma eyes second straight win

Nov 17, 2008 - 3:21 PM Mississippi Valley St (0-2) at No. 14 Oklahoma (1-0), 9:00 pm EST

NORMAN, Oklahoma (Ticker) -- Expected to have a big campaign, Blake Griffin did not disappoint in Oklahoma's season opener.

Griffin and the 14th-ranked Sooners look to go 2-0 when they host Mississippi Valley State as part of the NIT Season Tip-Off on Monday.

The winner will advance to play either James Madison or No. 20 Davidson in the next round Tuesday.

The preseason Big 12 Conference Player of the Year, Griffin had 24 points and 18 rebounds in Oklahoma's 83-54 triumph over American on Friday. The 6-10 sophomore forward is projected by some to be the top pick in next year's NBA draft if he leaves school.

It does not get any easier for Mississippi Valley State, which has already had a tough start to the season.

The Delta Devils lost their opener at No. 15 Arizona State on Friday and were pounded, 76-25, at Washington State on Saturday. MVSU shot 17 percent (9-of-54) from the floor in the loss to the Cougars.

Dwayne Harmason leads the Cougars in scoring at 10.5 points per game.
