Kansas to raise banner, host Florida Gulf Coast

Nov 18, 2008 - 3:24 PM Florida Gulf Coast (0-0) at No. 24 Kansas (1-0), 9:00 pm EST

LAWRENCE, Kansas (Ticker) -- No. 24 Kansas will celebrate last season's national title before it hosts Florida Gulf Coast as part of the CBE Classic on Tuesday.

While the Jayhawks (1-0) unveil their fifth national championship banner, the team on the court will be relatively new.

Kansas lost all five starters from last season's team that defeated Memphis, 75-68, in overtime of a dramatic national championship game.

Two key reserves from last season's team had good starts in Kansas' season-opening 71-56 victory over Missouri-Kansas City on Sunday.

Sherron Collins scored 16 points and Cole Aldrich had 13 as the Jayhawks pulled away in the second half after the game was tied at the break.

Florida Gulf Coast of the Atlantic Sun Conference is playing its season opener after going 10-21 last season.

The Eagles are led by their lone senior, Delvin Franklin, who averaged 9.2 points a season ago.
