Georgetown aiming to improve outside shooting

Nov 22, 2008 - 11:16 AM Drexel (1-0) at No. 18 Georgetown (1-0) 1:00 p.m. EST

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- With two of its top players gone, Georgetown needs to improve its outside shooting if it wants to duplicate its success from last season.

The 18th-ranked Hoyas look to open the season with back-to-back wins on Saturday when they host Drexel.

Georgetown, which is coming off a disappointing second-round exit in the NCAA Tournament last season, is without 7-2 center Roy Hibbert and point guard Jonathan Wallace - the leaders on a team that won 28 games in 2007-08.

Replacing Wallace is sophomore Chris Wright, who scored 14 of his career-high 16 points in the first half of the season opener as Georgetown held on for a 71-62 victory against Jacksonville on Monday.

The Hoyas never trailed but struggled to put away Jacksonville, making only 5-of-23 (22 percent) 3-pointers.

Georgetown will try to find its range against Drexel, which escaped with a 66-64 victory against Pennsylvania during both teams' season opener on Tuesday.

Pennsylvania's Zack Rosen was fouled on a 3-point attempt in the final seconds, but missed two free throws, saving the Dragons.
