Purdue faces Coppin State before heading to New York

Nov 22, 2008 - 11:15 AM Coppin State (1-0) at No. 10 Purdue (3-0) 6:00 p.m. EST

WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana (Ticker) -- Before 10th-ranked Purdue can set its sights on advancing to the finals of the NIT Season Tip-Off, it will have to get past Coppin State on Saturday.

Purdue wasted little time punching its ticket to New York City, claiming a 78-46 victory over Loyola of Chicago in the second round of the tournament on Tuesday.

Loyola of Chicago took a 4-2 lead less than two minutes in before the Boilermakers took over, pulling ahead 30-9 with 4:20 left before halftime on the strength of a 28-5 run.

Keaton Grant scored eight of his 11 points in the first half, E'Twaun Moore added 14 points and Robbie Hummel contributed 13 as Purdue secured a meeting with Boston College at Madison Square Garden on November 26.

Before the Boilmakers pack their bags, they have a meeting with Coppin State, which had no trouble forging a 94-73 triumph over Division II Wilmington during its season opener last Saturday.

Jordan Lee scored 22 points to lead four players in double figures for the Eagles, who are the defending Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament champions.
