Jeter, Wisconsin-Milwaukee seek huge upset vs. Marquette

Nov 22, 2008 - 11:16 AM Wisc-Milwaukee (3-1) at (15) Marquette (2-0)

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Rob Jeter will be on the sidelines coaching a heavy underdog with a heavy heart.

Jeter and Wisconsin-Milwaukee look to defeat in-state rival No. 15 Marquette for the first time in the 91-year history of the series on Saturday.

The two teams are separated by just four miles, and the only element missing from making this a fierce rivalry is the lack of wins by the Panthers. Marquette has won all 35 meetings in the series, which resumed last season after a nine-year hiatus.

The players will likely be inspired to give Jeter a win in memory of his father Bob, a former Green Bay Packers cornerback who passed away on Thursday at the age of 71 due to what is believed to be cardiac arrest.

The junior Jeter and his team will be facing an uphill battle, though. The Golden Eagles (2-1) are 32-0 at home vs. the Panthers (3-1) - the third-longest active home winning streak over one team in Division I.

The 35 victories overall are the second-longest active streak against a single opponent; Syracuse has beaten Colgate 42 straight times.

Dominic James scored 22 points in a 100-65 win on November 30 last season. Wesley Matthews scored 26 points in a 106-87 win over Chicago State on Monday.

The Panthers are coming off an 87-59 rout of Division II Upper Iowa on Wednesday.
