USC takes on Missouri in Puerto Rico

Nov 23, 2008 - 7:41 AM Missouri (3-1) vs. No. 20 Southern California (3-1), 12:30 p.m. EST

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (Ticker) -- Southern California hopes to stay in gear at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off when it faces Missouri in the fourth-place game on Sunday.

The 20th-ranked Trojans (3-1) bounced back from a disappointing setback to Seton Hall by pounding Tennessee-Chattanooga, 73-46, on Friday.

Taj Gibson continued his emergence with his third straight double-double in the win over the Mocs. The junior forward had 17 points and 15 rebounds and is averaging 19.3 and 14.3 over his last three contests.

Daniel Hackett added 10 points and nine assists for the Trojans, who outrebounded the Mocs, 57-32.

Missouri (3-1), which has not made the NCAAs since 2003, should provide a good test for Gibson and USC.

The Tigers dropped their tournament opener to Xavier before posting an 87-59 victory over Fairfield on Friday.

Seniors Leo Lyons and DeMarre Carroll will try and keep Gibson off the boards. Lyons is averaging 18.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game, while Carroll is a close second at 18.0 and 6.5 per contest.
