Hansbrough, North Carolina face host Chaminade in Maui

Nov 24, 2008 - 2:46 PM (1) North Carolina (3-0) at Chaminade (0-0) 9:30 pm. EST

MAUI, Hawaii (Ticker) -- Tyler Hansbrough looks to shake off the rust on Monday when he and top-ranked North Carolina face host Chaminade in the opening round of the Maui Invitational.

Hansbrough missed the first two games of his career to start the season due to a stress reaction in his shin, but the reigning National Player of the Year returned on Friday in an 84-67 win over UC Santa Barbara.

The senior forward did not look like his usual self as he scored 13 points on just 2-of-8 from the floor and hit 9-of-10 free throws in 25 minutes.

Hansbrough admitted he wasn't in the best shape afterwards, which is to be expected. He will likely be worked back into the rotation slowly during this tournament, which features three games in three days.

Not to fear though, as the Tar Heels (3-0) have plenty of other options. Ty Lawson led the way with 19 points vs. Santa Barbara and Wayne Ellington scored 17.

This is the season opener for Chaminade, which is just 5-65 as the host of this tournament. The defending Pacific West Conference champions lost all five starters and the top six scorers from last season's team.

This is the first meeting between the schools. The winner will face either Alabama or Oregon on Tuesday.
