Matthews, Marquette eyes fourth straight win

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Marquette looks to go 4-0 when it hosts Texas Southern on Tuesday.

The 15th-ranked Golden Eagles (3-0) have not missed a beat under new coach Buzz Williams - thanks to an experienced backcourt.

Seniors Wesley Matthews, Jerel McNeal and Dominic James combined to average 55.4 points through the first three contests. Junior Lazar Hayward is also averaging 21.7 points and 10.7 rebounds.

Matthews has scored at least 25 points in three straight games for the first time in his career. The 6-5 swingman had 25 in Marquette's 100-80 triumph over Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Saturday.

Texas Southern (0-3) of the Southwestern Athletic Conference has lost three straight contests on road to open the season.

DeAndre Hall is scoring 16.3 points per game to lead the Tigers, who are coming off a 74-67 defeat to Northern Iowa on Sunday.

Marquette is averaging 100.3 points per contest this season.
