Florida aiming to rebound vs. Washington

Nov 25, 2008 - 3:08 PM No. 18 Floirda (3-1) vs. Washington (2-2) 7:45 p.m. EST

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) -- Eighteenth-ranked Florida looks to bounce back from its first loss of the new season when it faces Washington in the consolation game of the CBE Classic on Tuesday.

Nick Calathes scored 19 points and handed out seven assists on Monday, but it was not enough as Florida was upset, 89-83, against Syracuse during the semifinals of this tournament.

Converted to point guard this year after he set the school's single-season assist record as a freshman, Calathes has been impressive so far, but was no match for Syracuse's Jonny Flynn, who scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half as the Orange recorded an early quality win.

Alex Tyus had a career-high 24 points on 11-of-14 shooting for the Gators, who finished 48 percent (34-of-71) from the floor and should get back on track against Washington.

The Huskies were no match for No. 23 Kansas in the other semifinal on Monday, suffering a 73-54 setback to the defending national champion.

Washington's Jon Brockman struggled from the field, finishing with seven points on 2-of-9 shooting. He did collect 16 rebounds, but more than a handful on his own misses.

Brockman entered his senior season among the top 50 preseason candidates for the Wooden Award after averaging 17.8 points and 11.6 rebounds for a 16-17 Huskies squad last year.
