Griffin, Oklahoma meet UAB at MSG

Nov 26, 2008 - 11:19 AM Alabama-Birmingham (4-0) vs. No. 13 Oklahoma (4-0), 9:00 p.m. EST

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Alabama-Birmingham has been perfect away from home. For that trend to continue, it will have to find a way to contain Blake Griffin.

UAB takes on Griffin and 13th-ranked Oklahoma in the NIT Season Tip-Off semifinals on Wednesday.

The Blazers (4-0) advanced to the semifinals with a win over Santa Clara on a neutral court and a 72-71 victory at Arizona when Paul Delaney III was fouled during a tie game with eight-tenths of a second left in his own backcourt. Delaney made one free throw to give the Blazers the win.

UAB also has road victories over Troy and Old Dominion as the school is off to its first 4-0 start since 2004.

Robert Vaden leads the Blazers in scoring at 18.8 points per game and Delaney is second at 17.3 per contest.

UAB will have to find a way to slow down Griffin, who has recorded four straight double-doubles.

The sophomore forward had career highs with 35 points and 21 rebounds as Oklahoma held off Gardner-Webb, 80-76, on Saturday.

Griffin is averaging 26.0 points and 19.8 rebounds and freshman Willie Warren is scoring 15.3 points per game.

Oklahoma advanced to the semifinals with home wins over Mississippi Valley State and then-No. 21 Davidson.

The winner plays either Boston College or ninth-ranked Purdue on Friday.
