Texas faces Oregon in consolation game

Nov 26, 2008 - 2:12 PM No. 7 Texas (3-1) vs. Oregon (2-2) 4:30 p.m. EST

LAHAINA, Hawaii (Ticker) -- Seventh-ranked Texas looks to bounce back from its first loss on Wednesday when it faces Oregon in the consolation game of the Maui Invitational.

Texas endured an 81-80 setback to No. 8 Notre Dame in the semifinals on Tuesday, literally falling a couple inches short of a berth in the tournament title game.

With Notre Dame nursing a one-point lead, reigning Big East Player of the Year Luke Harangody was fouled on an inbounds pass with 3.5 seconds left, but missed both attempts at the line, giving the Longhorns a shot for the win.

Gary Johnson rebounded Harangody's second miss from the stripe and quickly found A.J. Abrams, who connected on his 300th career 3-pointer only minutes before. The senior guard turned to race up the court before unleashing a heave from right before halfcourt that hit the front of the rim, giving the Fighting Irish quite a scare.

Oregon did not come nearly as close to advancing during its semifinal matchup, suffering a 98-69 drubbing from top-ranked North Carolina on Tuesday.

Michael Dunigan had 16 points for the Ducks, who trailed 51-22 at the half and never threatened thereafter.
