Miami returns home, hosts Stetson

Nov 29, 2008 - 11:26 AM Stetson (2-2) at No. 21 Miami, Florida (3-1)

CORAL GABLES, Florida (Ticker) -- While it would have been easy to let the effects of its first loss get the better of it, 22nd-ranked Miami did quite the contrary.

The Hurricanes will look to follow an impressive win with another solid performance against in-state foe Stetson on Saturday.

Miami got 27 points from Jack McClinton and Dwayne Collins recorded a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds, but fell short against second-ranked Connecticut, 76-63, in the semifinals of the Paradise Jam Sunday.

In the consolation game, the 'Canes faced last year's West Coast Conference tournament champion San Diego, which returned all five starters from a squad that upset the Huskies in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

While McClinton struggled to just nine points on 2-of-7 shooting, Jimmy Graham had 11 points and 13 rebounds off the bench as the Miami reserves scored 42 points in an 80-45 rout of the Toreros.

Fellow reserves Brian Asbury and Lance Hurdle added 14 and 10 apiece for Miami, which held San Diego to just 33 percent shooting (17-of-52)from the field.

After just missing the upset over Florida State, 79-77, the Hatters bounced back with a 23-point win over Johnson and Wales (FL). Tim Lang had 13 points and 11 rebounds while Kris Thomas and Garfield Blair scored 11 apiece in a 59-36 win.

Stetson took on Texas in its season opener, falling, 68-38.
