Villanova faces first test
Nov 29, 2008 - 12:59 PM Rhode Island (5-1) at No. 20 Villanova (5-0), 8:30 p.m. ESTPHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- No. 20 Villanova may get its first test of the season on Saturday when it hosts Rhode Island in a Philly Hoop Group Classic contest.
The Wildcats have won their five games by an average of 22.4 points, which includes a 64-47 triumph over Towson on Friday.
Balance has been a key for Villanova, which is off to its first 5-0 start since it went 10-0 in 2005.
Dante Cunningham leads the Wildcats in scoring at 17.2 points per contest but Scottie Reynolds (13.2), Corey Stokes (12.8) and Corey Stokes (11.4) are also averaging in double figures.
Rhode Island is averaging 83.8 points and is coming off a 77-72 triumph over Penn State on Friday.
Jimmy Baron scored 20 points in the win and the senior is averaging 18.5 per contest to lead the Rams. The guard has made 26-of-45 (58 percent) shots from the arc.
It is the second time Rhode Island has faced a ranked team. The Rams lost, 84-79, at then-No. 5 Duke on November 16.
