Syracuse looks to extend perfect start

Dec 1, 2008 - 9:14 PM SYRACUSE, New York (Ticker) -- Syracuse has defeated some impressive opponents over the first month of the season. The Orange should not have much trouble extending their perfect start against Colgate.

Sensational sophomore Jonny Flynn and the 20th-ranked Orange look to continue their undefeated start to the season Monday when they host the Raiders.

Syracuse (6-0) defeated Florida and Kansas, who have combined to win the NCAA's last three national championships, en route to the title in last week's CBE Classic in Kansas City, Missouri.

One day after posting an 89-83 victory over then-No. 18 Florida, the Orange rallied for an 89-81 triumph last Tuesday against the defending national champion Jayhawks.

Flynn scored 25 points in the contest and sank the game-tying 3-pointer late in regulation to force overtime.

The Orange returned home three days later to edge Virginia, 73-70. Flynn and Andy Rautins each scored 15 points for Syracuse, which erased an 11-point halftime deficit.

Flynn has been outstanding this season for the Orange, averaging team highs of 20.0 points and 5.0 assists.

Colgate (2-2) is reeling from consecutive losses to Kennesaw State and California-Riverside.

The Raiders have been led by sophomore guard Mike Venezia, who has averaged 11.0 points per game.

Syracuse crushed Colgate, 87-59, last December 18.
