Down Harangody, Notre Dame hosts South Dakota

Dec 2, 2008 - 1:32 PM South Dakota (3-4) at No. 7 Notre Dame (5-1) 7:30 p.m. EST

SOUTH BEND, Indiana (Ticker) -- Notre Dame is finding out the hard way what life without Luke Harangody is like.

The seventh-ranked Fighting Irish should be able to get by without last year's Big East Player of the Year on Tuesday when they take on Division II South Dakota.

Harangody was diagnosed with pneumonia after battling the sickness during the Maui Invitational.

The 6-8 forward became ill following the Fighting Irish's 81-80 win over Texas in the semifinals last Tuesday. Still, Harangody played in the title game against top-ranked North Carolina, scoring 13 points and collecting seven rebounds in the 102-87 loss.

With Harangody - who leads the team in scoring (22.6 ppg) and rebounding (11.2 rpg) - out of action, Notre Dame will depend on the red-hot shooting of Kyle McAlarney.

After knocking down a school-record 10 baskets from beyond the arc in the loss to North Carolina, the senior drained nine 3-pointers en route to a 32-point performance during Sunday's 93-61 win over Furman.

The Coyotes have faced a pair of Division I opponents so far this year, dropping road contests to Cornell and Cincinnati.

Tyler Cain and Louie Krogman have led South Dakota in the scoring department so far this season, averaging 16.1 and 15.1 points, respectively.
