Unbeaten Pittsburgh takes on Duquesne

Dec 3, 2008 - 12:41 PM Duquesne (4-1) at No. 3 Pittsburgh (7-0) 7:00 p.m. EST

PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- A perfect record entering the month of December is not uncharted waters for coach Jamie Dixon and Pittsburgh.

The third-ranked Panthers go for their seventh consecutive 8-0 start when they host Duquesne for the 77th time on Wednesday.

In his six seasons with Pittsburgh, Dixon has yet to drop a game in November and has started each season with at least 10 consecutive wins. The Panthers have won 33-straight home games against non-conference opponents at Petersen Events.

The inner-city rivalry has been one-sided of late, with Pittsburgh capturing seven straight meetings and 26 of the last 29. The teams have met every year since the 1970-71 season.

Led by Sam Young and DaJuan Blair, the Panthers figure to continue their successful run against the Dukes.

Young is scoring a team-high 19.4 points a game while Blair is averaging a double-double with 15.3 points and 12.3 rebounds per contest.

The duo led Pittsburgh to the Legends Classic title with wins over Texas Tech and Washington State. Young earned tournament MVP honors and Blair made the all-tournament team.

Duquesne won its first four games of the season before losing, 95-72, to then-No. 5 Duke.

Damian Saunders leads the Dukes with 17.8 points and 7.4 rebounds per game while Aaron Jackson is averaging 16.6 points, 6.8 rebounds and 6.4 assists.
