Ohio State eyes another upset against Notre Dame

Dec 6, 2008 - 11:21 AM Ohio State (4-0) vs. No. 7 Notre Dame (6-1) 4:00 p.m. EST

INDIANAPOLIS (Ticker) -- Ohio State is coming off a huge win against a favored team. The Buckeyes will have to slow Notre Dame's red-hot shooting if they plan on scoring a second straight upset.

Ohio State looks to stay undefeated on Saturday when it faces seventh-ranked Notre Dame.

The Buckeyes opened the season with three straight wins against lesser opponents before meeting No. 22 Miami in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Tuesday.

Jon Diebler scored 14 of his career-high 20 points in the second half as Ohio State overcame a 14-point halftime deficit for a 73-68 victory against Miami.

Although they had been in control throughout the first half, the Hurricanes absorbed a major blow when leading scorer Jack McClinton was ejected near the midway point after committing a dead-ball flagrant foul.

McClinton was tossed from the game with his team leading, 19-7, with 10:12 left in the first half after the officials reviewed a play in which the senior guard took a swing at freshman guard Anthony Crater.

With Miami missing its senior leader, Ohio State charged out of the blocks in the second half, starting with a 15-2 run and outlasted the Hurricanes down the stretch to earn the win.

The Fighting Irish set school records for 3-pointers made (19) and attempted (37) en route to a 102-76 drubbing of South Dakota on Tuesday.

Ryan Ayers scored a career-high 35 points, hitting nine threes, and Kyle McAlarney also starred from long range, adding seven 3-pointers and 27 points

The win was the Notre Dame's second straight without Luke Harangody, the team's leading scorer, rebounder and reigning Big East Player of the Year, who is sidelined with pneumonia.
