Rough tactics not limiting Griffin, Oklahoma

Dec 7, 2008 - 8:11 AM No. 6 Oklahoma (7-0) at Tulsa (4-3)

TULSA, Oklahoma (Ticker) -- Blake Griffin and Oklahoma are proving that they can take some hits and still earn a victory.

After avoiding their first loss, Blake Griffin and the sixth-ranked Sooners take on Tulsa in the first college basketball game at the newly constructed BOK Center.

Blake Griffin scored 25 points as Oklahoma pulled out a 73-72 victory over Southern California in the Big 12/Pac-10 Hardwood series on Thursday.

USC attempted to muscle around Blake Griffin, a tactic that got a little out of hand in the second half.

Trojans freshman forward Leonard Washington was ejected with 13:54 remaining after hitting the sensational sophomore below the belt.

After a basket by Taylor Griffin that gave Oklahoma a 52-44 lead, Washington applied a low blow to Blake Griffin prior to setting up in the lane, sending the sophomore star crashing to

the floor.

After reviewing the video, the officials tossed Washington for a flagrant foul.

Despite the hard knocks, Blake Griffin was fired up, scoring 11 of his 14 second-half points after the cheap shot by Washington as the Sooners continued their best start since beginning 10-0 in 2003-04.

Oklahoma should have little trouble earning its eighth straight win against Tulsa, which has lost each of its last two games, including a 75-63 setback to Ohio on Wednesday.
