Unbeaten Villanova faces first real test

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Villanova has cruised through its first eight games this season. Now comes its first major challenge.

The 12th-ranked Wildcats will try to stay unbeaten when they square off with No. 6 Texas at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday.

Villanova has won its games by an average of 22.8 points this season, but the wins have come against lesser competition.

Scottie Reynolds scored 23 points and Corey Stokes had 22 as the Wildcats pounded Houston Baptist, 93-57, on Thursday.

Dante Cunningham leads a balanced scoring attack at 17.3 points and 8.0 rebounds for Villanova.

One of the favorites in the Big 12 Conference, the Longhorns are coming off a 68-64 triumph over then-No. 9 UCLA on Thursday.

A.J. Abrams tied his career high with 31 points in the win and the senior leads Texas in scoring at 18 points per game.

Villanova won the most recent meeting, 76-69, on January 20, 2007.
