Xavier eyes eighth straight win
Dec 10, 2008 - 11:34 AM Ohio (4-3) at No. 9 Xavier (7-0), 7:30 p.m. ESTCINCINNATI (Ticker) -- Ranked in the Top 10 for the first time this season, No. 9 Xavier looks to stay unbeaten when it hosts Ohio on Wednesday.
The Musketeers, who finished eighth in the coaches' poll after the NCAA Tournament last season, have not been ranked in the Top 10 during the regular season since they were ninth on December 7, 1997.
Yet, the fast start has not come easy for Xavier, which has won its last five games by single digits.
B.J. Raymond scored a career-high 32 points to lead the Musketeers to an 81-74 victory over Auburn on December 3. Raymond leads a balanced scoring attack at 13.7 points per game.
Ohio will be playing its fourth game in five days after taking part in the Marques Maybin Classic in Louisville, Kentucky from Saturday-Monday.
Jerome Tillman had 18 points and 16 rebounds as the Bobcats won the last game, 62-50, over Indiana State to salvage the trip. Tillman is averaging 20.7 points and 10.7 rebounds.
Ohio leads the all-time series, 20-13, but the schools have not met since the Bobcats posted a 103-72 victory on December 9, 1995.
