Xavier takes on rival Cincinnati

Dec 13, 2008 - 11:32 AM No. 9 Xavier (8-0) at Cincinnati (6-1), 8:00 p.m. EST

CINCINNATI (Ticker) -- Off to one of the best starts in school history, Xavier has to earn bragging rights in its own city.

The ninth-ranked Musketeers visit rival Cincinnati on Saturday.

At 8-0, Xavier has matched the second-best start in school history posted by the 1992-93 squad. The best mark is 10-0 set during the 1996-97 campaign.

C.J. Anderson scored 22 points and Derrick Brown had 18 as Xavier cruised by Ohio, 78-56, on Wednesday.

The Musketeers have had success in the annual crosstown battle with the Bearcats, winning eight of the past 12 meetings, including a 64-59 victory last season.

Cincinnati is off to its best start since 2004-05 and is coming off an 87-80 triumph on December 6.

Deonta Vaughn is scoring 13.7 points to lead the Bearcats, but the junior guard is only shooting 37 percent from the floor.
